GreeneStreet Films has bought film rights to the novel “Strange But True,” by John Searles, who also wrote the screenplay.
Ross Katz, who produced Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette” and “Lost in Translation,” is producing along with GreeneStreet. The two collaborated on “In the Bedroom.”
“Strange,” published to generally positive reviews in 2004, is part thriller and part family drama. It centers on a young man forced to return home to his divorced mother, who never fully accepted the death of her younger son from a limo accident the night of his senior prom. Another chain of events is set off when the son’s high school girlfriend shows up on the family’s doorstep five years after the accident, claiming to be pregnant with his child.
Searles, the deputy editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, also wrote “Boy Still Missing.” He recently signed a two-book contract with HarperCollins.
