Goldie Hawn to star, direct ‘Ashes’

Actress also wrote script with Jeremy Pikser

Goldie Hawn will star in and direct the comedy “Ashes to Ashes,” which will also topline Kurt Russell.

The couple arrived in Cannes on Sunday to talk up the film and to support Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof,” which stars Russell.

Pic will be produced by producers Michel Shane and Anthony Romano (“I, Robot”).

“Ashes to Ashes” centers on a woman who travels through India to Kathmandu to bury her husband’s ashes but loses them along the way.

Hawn helms, in her feature directing debut, from a script she wrote with Jeremy Pikser (“Bulworth”). Project’s been a longtime passion of the actress, who has already helmed a number of TV movies.

“Goldie and Kurt have the type of energetic chemistry that really elevates a film. Goldie has a brilliant vision for the film that translates into a hybrid love story with a comedic edge only she can provide,” Shane said.

Financing for the pic comes from Aramid Entertainment, represented by Simon Fawcett, who serves as exec producer, while equity is arranged through Shane and Romano’s Hand Picked Films.

Velvet Octopus is handling international sales.

Pre-production will begin in the fall; movie will be shot in New York and India.

Other projects from Hand Picked Films include the biopic “Buddha,” which the company is producing with M Films, and a biopic of Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the first black basketball player to play in the NBA.
