‘Devil’ rides off with Britdoc prize

'Mosquito' lands honorable mention

LONDON — Directing duo Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stein’s pic about Darfur “The Devil Came on Horseback” scooped the international feature prize at the soph edition of documentary fest Britdoc.

Andre Paounov’s Hungarian-set doc “The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories,” about a community besieged by insects, earned an honorable mention from the jury.

The British feature competition prize went to Kim Longinotto for “Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go,” an exploration of the difficulties faced by excluded children and their carers.

Jezza Neumann’s “China’s Stolen Children” nabbed the MySpace-sponsored audience award.

Despite some severe flooding in the local area, the fest took place July 25-27 at Keble College, Oxford — the same location as the debut edition. A co-production forum, networking events and a pitching forum accompanied the doc screenings.
