BERLIN — Italy’s Lucky Red, Ireland’s Subotica and Catalonia’s Ovideo have taken co-production roles in Manuel Gomez Pereira’s romantic drama “El juego del ahorcado” (The Hanged Man), which is produced by Madrid-based El Amigo de Lenon.
The Spanish shingle was created by Ana Amigo’s Amigo and Gomez Pereira’s own banner, Lennon.
A steamy story of sexual and emotional initiation mixed with crime, “Hanged Man” charts the relationship between a teen boy and girl.
Screenplay is by Gomez Pereira and Salvador Garcia-Ruiz (“Voices in the Night”) from a novel by Inma Turbau. Set in 1989-90, action moves from the Catalan town of Gerona to Dublin. The Euros 4 million ($5.2 million) pic will roll from May. Casting is by Luis San Narciso.
Gomez Pereira’s pics — mostly witty, raunchy comedies — have seen considerable international success, chalking up over $6 million in aggregate international sales.
