Gotham plays host to the first biennial showcase of Chilean cinema, which kicked off Thursday with Matias Bize’s drama “En la cama” (In bed) followed by a Q&A with the helmer.
Cinema Chile, which closes Nov. 15, includes family drama “La sagrada familia,”(Sacred Family), comedies “Padre nuestro” (Our Father) and “Mi major enemigo,” (My Best Enemy), as well as drama “Se arrienda” (For Rent).
Docus “La hija del general” (The General’s Daughter) and “El despojo” (The Plunder) will also play.
Fest features a selection of shorts and a sidebar showcasing pics by veteran Chilean auteurs including Alejandro Jodorowsky, Raoul Ruiz, Patricio Guzman and Miguel Littín.
Event is a culmination of promo efforts by government trade org ProChile, which hosted a two-week Chilean Week in Los Angeles in October that highlighted Chile’s film, food, wine, fashion and other businesses.
