'Eagle vs. Shark' to close week-long event

Paul Verhoeven’s “Black Book” will open the 10th annual Bermuda Intl. Film Festival March 16 and Kiwi standup comedian Taika Waititi’s “Eagle vs. Shark” closes the island fest March 24.

Bermuda-born British actor Earl Cameron will be feted with a film retrospective and take part in “A Conversation With … Earl Cameron” March 17.

Nine-day fest screens more than 80 films and serves as a qualifying festival for the short films category of the Academy Awards. Bill Plympton’s “Guide Dog,” Neil Leifer’s “God’s Gift,” David Birdsell’s “Hairlady” and Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson’s “First Flight” shorts unspool in competish.

Carrie Fisher, Richard Dreyfuss, Stanley Nelson, Lucinda Spurling, Tamara Tarasova and Ben Newmark sit on the awards jury doling out prizes for narrative feature and documentary film in addition to the shorts nod.
