BERLIN — A. Zeta, a new Spanish distribution house, has closed Spanish rights on four pics from France’s Wild Bunch: David Gordon Green’s “Snow Angels,” with Kate Beckinsale, Brit vet Nicolas Roeg’s “Puffball,” and, from France, Marc Caro’s debut as a solo helmer “Dante 01,” and Manuel Pradal’s “A Crime.”
Making up its first slate of international acquisitions, distrib also has taken Spain on Hyde Park’s “The City of Your Final Destination,” directed by James Ivory and toplining Anthony Hopkins. Another film is “August Rush,” with Robin Williams and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, bought from Odyssey Ent.
Deals are follow up accords to AFM dealings, said A. Zeta CEO Alvaro Zapata.
A former Disney Spain and DeAPlaneta exec, Zapata launched with Andres Vicente Gomez in July.
A. Zeta targets edgier upscale U.S. and Euro fare and distributes titles produced by Zapata and Gomez’s production companies.
But its Berlin purchases might be sparse.
“At Berlin, many sales companies are offering the same films at the same prices. Either they’ll have to offer new films, or put the old films’ prices down,” Zapata said.
