'Queen,' 'Iwo Jima' score high

MADRID — Romanian helmer Cristian Mungiu’s abortion drama “4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days” has added to its Cannes Palme d’Or triumph by winning the film of the year prize from the Intl. Federation of Film Critics.

“4 Months” also took the Fipresci Prize at Cannes.

The Grand Prix received 248 votes with “4 Months” being the clear winner, the Fipresci organization announced Monday.

The five most-popular films this year were “4 Months,” Stephen Frears’ “The Queen,” Clint Eastwood’s “Letters From Iwo Jima,” Jia Zhangke’s “Still Life” and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Syndromes and a Century.”

Spotlighting groundbreaking filmmaking, the Fipresci Grand Prix will be presented to Mungiu at the opening gala ceremony of the San Sebastian festival on Sept. 20.
