COLOGNE — Germany’s Odeon Film has joined up with two partners to establish a shingle that will focus on low-budget and genre film productions.
Odeon’s partners are producer Peter Rommel, whose pics include Andreas Dresen’s ensembler “Halbe Treppe” (“Grill Point”), which won a Silver Bear in 2002, and Thomas Haberle, previously co-founder of Kinowelt, Indigo Film and Shotgun Pictures.
Joint shingle, which has been baptized Waterfall Prods., will be located in Hanover. Odeon holds 50.1%, with Rommel and Haberle sharing the balance equally.
Backed by a credit line from Bayerische Hypo and Vereinsbank, Waterfall plans to produce up to eight pics in the first three years. The partners didn’t indicate what projects or genres they will initially go for but noted that “we won’t make the mistakes of many producers who copy Hollywood in Europe.”
