Dealmaker to co-head business affairs dept.
Focus Features has elevated Howard Meyers to exec VP of business affairs. He will co-head the specialty label’s business affairs department with Avy Eschenasy, exec veepee of strategic planning, business affairs and acquisitions.
Meyers, based in the company’s West Coast offices, had been senior VP of business affairs since Focus’ formation five years ago. With his promotion, Meyers will continue to oversee and negotiate deals for Focus and sister label Rogue Pictures.
Focus CEO James Schamus said Meyers has been key to Focus’ success, calling his counsel — in all senses of the word — invaluable. And Eschenasy tipped his hat toward his biz affairs partner, whom he lauded as “an excellent negotiator.”
Among the many talent and financing deals Meyers has brokered are the pacts for “Brokeback Mountain,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Reservation Road.”
Prior to Focus’ formation, he was senior veep of business affairs at USA Films. He previously served stints at MGM, United Artists and Warner Bros.
