Sunset Gower Studios, site of Columbia Pictures for decades, will honor Hollywood veteran Abby Singer on May 17, dedicating the Directors’ Building in his name.
Singer first strode onto the Col lot in Gower Gulch in 1946. Singer — who started his career as secretary to producer-production manager Jack Fier — rose to assistant director and production manager in both film and television.
His name entered industry-speak during a production when he convinced the crew that the second-to-last shot of the day was actually the last shot. Thus was born the Abby. Singer currently teaches production at AFI.
