COLOGNE — Senator Film has picked up the distribution rights to Stephen Daldry’s “The Reader,” and expects to open the pic in German and Austrian theaters late next year.
Produced by the Mirage Enterprises for the Weinstein Co., pic is an adaptation by David Hare of the 1995 novel by Bernhard Schlink, translated into 39 languages so far. It will star Nicole Kidman, who has worked with Daldry in “The Hours,” and Ralph Fiennes.
“I’m very happy that we could secure rights for Germany and Austria thanks to our close cooperation with the Weinsteins,” said Senator’s topper, Marco Weber.
Filming is due to start this month in Germany.
