China's Oscar entry expected to win big
China’s entry for Oscar’s foreign-language category, “The Knot,” is tipped to dominate this week’s 16th Golden Rooster Awards, China’s top film kudofest, with nominations in eight out of 18 categories, including director for Yin Li.
He will compete with “Tokyo Trial” helmer Gao Qunshu and four others in the film category.
“Knot” thesp Li Bingbing is up for actress, as are Rene Liu and Carina Lau, while pic’s Chen Kun, who won the actor award at August’s Huabiao Film Awards, will vie for the same nod along with five other contenders.
The Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Film Festival also will screen 20 foreign movies, selected from 70 entries, competing for international film.
These include the Mexican-Spanish co-production “Pan’s Labyrinth,” the Finnish-German-French collaboration “Lights in the Dusk” and Dutch helmer Martin Koolhoven’s “Schnitzel Paradise.”
Fest started Tuesday and ends Sunday in the eastern city of Suzhou, near Shanghai.
