Festival honors actors with Rising Star Awards
Emile Hirsch and Nikki Blonsky will be honored with Rising Star Awards at the 19th annual Palm Spring Film Festival. Awards gala will be held Jan. 5.
They will join actress Marion Cotillard, who will receive the previously announced breakthrough performance nod for her role as Edith Piaf in “La Vie en rose.”
The awards were announced at a private event in the historic home of Charlie Chaplin in Beverly Hills. Fest chairman Earl Greenburg lauded Blonsky’s first bigscreen role in “Hairspray” and said Hirsch “has earned a reputation as the foremost leading man” with his performance in Sean Penn’s “Into the Wild.”
Hirsch just wrapped the Wachowskis’ “Speed Racer.” Blonsky will next be seen in “Harold” alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ally Sheedy.
The Palm Springs fest will run Jan. 3-14 with a lineup of more than 230 films, seminars, special events and gala receptions.
