NBC wins nine sports Emmys

Michaels named top announcer

NBC led all networks with nine awards at the Sports Emmys presentation Monday night in New York.

The Peacock won three for its coverage of the Torino Winter Olympics, as well as for NFL play-by-play announcer Al Michaels and studio analyst Cris Collinsworth.

ESPN — along with ABC and TNT — won four Emmys, including one for its weekly “Sunday NFL Countdown” show and two for the poker documentary “One of a Kind: The Rise and Fall of Stu Ungar,” including the Dick Schaap Writing Award to Al Szymanski.

TNT took home best daily studio show for its “Inside the NBA — Playoffs” program while HBO’s “Real Sports With Bryan Gumbel” captured the top prize for sports journalism.
