Cinematographer, 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'

As Steven Spielberg’s cinematographer of choice, Polish d.p. Kaminski hadn’t worked for another director in more than a decade when he took on Julian Schnabel’s “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” the story of a magazine editor with “locked-in” syndrome. More conceptual than commercial, “Diving Bell” allows the two-time Oscar winner to experiment with unconventional techniques, such as shooting most of the first reel as the paralyzed protag might see the world, blinking and blearily unfocused through one good eye.
