Chris Cooper

Dark Horse Lead Actor: 'Breach'

Why: Turns out Cooper’s biggest adversary wasn’t Ryan Phillippe spying on him in “Breach” but rather the film’s Feb. 16 release date. With so much kudos emphasis placed on pics that are out in the fall, it’s tough for an actor or film to get traction when their praises were sung so early in the year. That being said, Cooper’s performance as convicted FBI double-agent Robert Hanssen was one of the best of the year, and like many of his previous roles, captivating, focused and completely on the mark.
