TWC moves forward with ‘Transit’

Company closes on Attenborough pic

SANTA MONICA — The Weinstein Co. has bought David Andron-penned screenplay “The Transit” for Hong Kong-based helmer Andrew Lau to direct.

From U.K. sales and finance house ContentFilm, TWC also bought North American rights to “Closing the Ring” by Richard Attenborough.

“Transit” is the story of a man who is forced to kill three men in three different cities in 12 hours or his son will die.

Production will be by Lorenzo di Bonaventura through his Di Bonaventura Pictures. Adam Kolbrenner is attached as exec producer.

Pic will likely use coin from TWC’s recently established Asian film fund. TWC has a three picture deal with Lau, who previously co-helmed the “Infernal Affairs” trilogy that was remade as “The Departed.”

Helmer is also readying “The Water Margin” a period actioner to be produced by Media Asia.

Lucas Carter, director of production and development, will oversee the project for TWC with David Lee, executive VP of Asian operations.

“Closing the Ring,” which preemed in Toronto, is a love story stretching between WWII and the present days about an American woman’s determination to honor a longstanding promise.
