‘Sunday’ tops Kuala festival

'Kigali' named best film

HONG KONG – The Kuala Lumpur Int’l Film Fest wrapped Sunday with a wide smattering of prizes given according to country or region of origin.

Overall winner was “Sunday in Kigali,” which was variously named best film, best North American film and was the vehicle for best actress Fatou N’Diaye.

Fest (Nov 28 – Dec 2) is organized by the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) and with backing from Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corp. It played out alongside the Creative Media Content Expo (Nov 29 – Dec 2.) “Professionals have the opportunity to meet top global film and creative content producers, the public especially students can expand their horizon and learn more about the industry,” MDeC VP for Creative Multimedia and Content Kamil Othman, said.

Best Actress: Fatou N’Diaye – “Sunday in Kigali” (Canada)

Best Actor: Adel Imam – “The Yacoubian Building” (Egypt)

Best Screenplay: “American Folk” (USA)

Best Score Music: “The Struggle for Liberation” (Namibia)

Best Sound: “1957: Hati Malaya” (Malaysia)

Best Cinematography: “Not by Chance” (Brazil)

Best Special Effect (Jury Merit Award): “Transformers”

Best Editing: “Tehilim” – Raphael Nadjari

Special Jury Award: “1957: Hati Malaya”

Best American Film: “The Struggle of Liberation” (Namibia)

Best South American Film: “Cyrano Fernandez” (Venezuela)

Best North American Film: “Sunday in Kigali” (Canada)

Best European Film (Perdana Award – Best Film): “Tehilim” (France)

Best Asian Film: “One Summer with you” (China)
