Nair wins Pride of India award

Director honored at Bollywood Film Awards

“The Namesake” helmer Mira Nair will receive the Pride of India award at the ninth Bollywood Film Awards, to be held May 26 at the Nassau Coliseum in Gotham.

Nod was announced Tuesday by Kamal Dandona, chairman of the Bollywood Group.

“The brilliant thing is that there’s room for all of us, for our four Bollywood extravaganzas and for my independent work, because we come from a place whose heart is as big as the ocean,” Nair said.

Other subcontinent celebrities expected to attend include Raj Kumar Hirani (helmer of “Lage raho Munnabhai”), stars Bipasha Basu and Vivek Oberoi and Pakistani singer Waris Beg.
