ImaginAsian, Prime take ‘Aria’ to America

Won wrote, directed Korean thriller

BERLIN — ImaginAsian Entertainment and South Korea’s Prime Entertainment have struck a deal to co-distribute Korean thriller “A Bloody Aria” in North America.

Pic, scripted and helmed by Won Sin-yeon, sees a professor and his student become involved with three unsavory characters who may or may not be killers. It stars Oh Dal-su (“Oldboy,” “The Host”) and Han Suk-kyu (“Shiri”).

ImaginAsian, which styles itself as a multimedia company promoting Pacific content to North American auds, was one of the most active buyers at last year’s Asian Film Market in Pusan.

“Aria” will be given a theatrical release through ImaginAsian Pictures before being taken to ancillary markets. Company has an arrangement with the Weinstein Co.’s 70%-owned subsidiary Genius Products to handle its titles in home entertainment markets.

Prime merged production companies LJ Film and Corea Entertainment in 2006. Its upcoming releases include Kwak Jae Yong’s martial-arts romantic comedy “My Mighty Princess,” horror “The Evil Twin,” Im Kwon Taek’s 100th film “Across the Years” and Deepa Mehta’s “Untitled Julia Project,” co-produced by Focus Features.
