'Ring Force Five' will debut on DVD

NBC Universal’s NBC Olympics unit has linked up with Chinese media conglom Xinhua Finance Media to produce animated skein “Ring Force Five” ahead of next year’s Beijing Games.

Skein will be produced through the Nasdaq-listed XFMedia’s subsidiary Small World. It will feature five Olympians from the future who travel back in time to experience the true essence and spirit of the modern Games, revived in 1896 based on their ancient model in Greece.

“We are looking forward to working closely with (NBC Universal) and building a bridge to the major U.S. sponsors involved with the Olympic Games and NBC,” said XFMedia prexy Fredy Bush.

XFMedia is the media offshoot of Xinhua Finance, itself a branch of government news agency Xinhua. XFMedia describes itself as China’s leading diversified financial and entertainment media company and is involved in TV, radio, newspapers, magazines and other distribution channels.

Project will kick off with a one-hour DVD to be released in the U.S. just before the 2008 Beijing Games. NBC Olympics and Small World will be responsible for the global marketing and merchandising of the DVD.
