Mobile network launches later this month

FremantleMedia’s mobile channel Atomic Wedgie is launching later this month on Helio’s nationwide service.

The channel, which offers original and repurposed shortform comedy programming, is also beefing up the quantity and variety of original content that will be available for mobile customers.

No financial details were made available.

“This is a pivotal moment for Atomic Wedgie. Helio brings the channel to a targeted group of early adopters whom we feel will embrace its innovative content and enjoy the humor that our channel provides,” said Keith Hindle, exec VP for FremantleMedia’s North American licensing team.

Atomic Wedgie offers users a menu of 12 programs to choose from, with 150 mobile shorts to watch. The channel’s launch on Helio will include 50 new shorts.

Atomic Wedgie is the first mobile channel to launch from the joint venture between FremantleMedia, producer of “American Idol,” and Mobliss, a mobile entertainment and content delivery player. The two partners jointly introduced SMS messaging for “Idol,” resulting in a huge text-voting campaign.

FremantleMedia is the production arm of Europe’s RTL Group.

Mobliss is a unit of Japan’s Index Group, which develops concepts for wireless, gaming and mobile devices.
