Label consolidates global catalog operations

Warner Music catalog operations around the world will be placed under the Rhino umbrella, paving the way for a series of online and mobile initiatives that will make much of the label’s roster digitally available outside the U.S. for the first time.

Initially, 15 countries — including most of Europe plus Australia, Japan and Brazil — will adopt the name and logo.

Among the new digital product lines is the Out of Print series of more 1,500 titles, available digitally only after being deleted from physical product lines, and the Songs You Know mobile range, featuring classic catalog ringtones, full-track downloads and videos promoted exclusively on mobile.

Rhino also will debut digital bundles of five tracks for the price of four.

Rhino, which handles all of Warner Music’s catalog in the U.S., next week launches its first dedicated wireless service in Japan, which will sell music products on a mobile site that targets the 30-and-over audience. Initial product offerings will include mastertones, video tones and full-length tracks from more than 200 artists.

The international launch also will see the first digital release of South Africa’s Gallo Music catalog, which includes recordings by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Lucky Dube.
