LONDON — Online video specialist Roo Group has secured a deal to launch more than 100 bespoke video players for the various labels of Universal Music UK and their artists.
The News Corp.-backed company will integrate its technology across all of Universal UK’s artist websites and individual labels sites such as Mercury Island, Universal Classics and Jazz and Polydor.
The partnership will allow Universal to tap into new revenue streams by offering downloads, leveraging creative advertising solutions and exploring other sponsorship opportunities.
Universal Music UK’s director of digital operations, PJ Dulay, said: “Video is central to our online strategy, as we have a wealth of video assets, including not only artist music videos but exclusive performances, acoustic sessions, interviews and collaborations.”
Tony Martin, senior vice president Roo Europe, added: “Music labels have constantly had to explore new revenue opportunities and business models during the digital revolution and the exploitation of video content online is a key opportunity. Roo will help Universal Music to maximize its existing content and drive the development of new services that will position it as an essential resource for its online community.”
