Channel targets young men

LONDON — The booming U.K. digital terrestrial platform Freeview is to get a version of best-selling men’s magazine Nuts courtesy of Turner Broadcasting and IPC Magazines.

NutsTV will air live, five nights a week and specialize in girls, sport, entertainment, gadgets and cars.

Venture hopes to build on the success of Nuts’ website, which claims to attract more than 600,000 unique users every month and features the magazine’s big breasted cover girls.

Dee Forbes, senior vice president and general manager Turner Broadcasting System said: “Turner Broadcasting System is delighted to lead the market and launch this new and unique multi-platform offering to such an important demographic.

“Original, live television will appeal perfectly to 16-34 year old men and adding a channel like NutsTV to the TBS portfolio of channels means that we have a desirable offering for viewers and advertisers alike.”

The young male audience is of increasing interest to media combos in the U.K.

In the fall cable company Virgin Media aims to launch Virgin One targeted at males.
