‘Stargate’ gets film treatment

MGM series to become two TV movies

MGM announced Monday that the “Stargate” TV franchise will be branching out into film.

Sequels “Stargate: The Ark of Truth” and “Stargate: Continuum” will be straight-to-DVD releases.

Current cast members Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black and Michael Shanks will star in both pics. Brad Wright and Robert Cooper will produce and write.

Skein, which currently airs on Sci Fi Channel, began in 1994 and can be seen in more than 120 countries worldwide.

“‘Stargate SG-1’ is to MGM Television what the James Bond and ‘Rocky’ franchises are to our feature-film unit,” said Charles Cohen, senior exec VP at MGM. “We are committed to continuing to release new ‘SG-1’ content and its ‘Stargate Atlantis’ spinoff and we’re also steadfast in our dedication to extending the franchise.”
