Sina picks up English, Italian soccer

Matches will be broadcast live online

HONG KONG — Sina Corp., China’s online media giant, has acquired Internet broadcast rights to English Premier League and Italian Serie A soccer.

Under a three year deal Sina will screen all 1,140 English matches live online. Its Sina Sport channel will offer subscribers choice of individual games at cost of RMB3.80 ($0.5) or monthly and annual passes rising to $5 and $50 respectively.

“These two deals reaffirm SINA’s position as a pre-eminent online sports broadcaster in China,” Tong Chen, executive VP and chief editor of NASDAQ-listed SINA, said.
