New version features high-def graphics
If you think 16 years was a long time to wait for “Godfather III” or “Star Wars: Episode I,” consider the vidgame world’s latest high-profile sequel.
“Pac-Man: Championship Edition” became available via digital download for Xbox 360 gamers last week — 26 years after the original.
It was 1981 when the original chomping head and his wife (or was it sister?) “Ms. Pac-Man” hit arcades everywhere.
New version features the original levels with spiffed-up high-def graphics, along with six new game modes and maps.
“Championship Edition” was overseen by Toru Iwatani, creator of the original Pac-Man.
The 52-year-old is making the sequel his swan song. He’s retiring from vidgame maker Namco to take a teaching position.
