New service offered on @nifty Douga
TOKYO — Internet service provider Nifty has launched a free contents webcasting service, with an initial skein of 500 titles, including toons, variety shows and cooking shows, starting on March 28.
The new service is offered on @nifty Douga, Nifty’s visual contents portal site. Since its start in December 2006, the site has expanded its pay contents line-up to include recent and classic pics, toons, dramas, variety shows, lifestyle shows and sports, presented both under category labels and as stand-alone channels.
Among the new free contents are the SF toon series “Darker Than Black,” the variety show “Sakarazuka Yankis” and the cooking show “Dream Recipe.” @nifty Douga is webcasting promotional videos of “Darker Than Black” prior to its April bow on ten affiliates of the TBS and MBS webs. It is also offering 1,000 selected subs a sneak preview of the first two episodes on the web. Once the series starts on April 5, episodes will appear on the site one week after their terrestrial broadcast.
Launched in 1986, Nifty now serves more than 10 million users. Consolidated sales for the 2005 fiscal year totaled $587 million.
