Social site to air full episode of FX comedy

Fans of FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” won’t have to wait until September to get a dose of the show’s dense deviants.

In a bid to promote the return of the subversive laffer, MySpace will stream the episode “Mac Is a Serial Killer” on the show’s homepage (myspace.com/sunnyfx) Aug. 16-23. That’s a month before the critically acclaimed laffer returns to FX.

“It’s a perfect fit demographically,” said FX marketing exec VP Stephanie Gibbons. “The viewers have been clamoring, especially online, asking when the new episodes were finally coming.”

“Sunny” traditionally runs in the summer, but FX pushed the show this year in order to take advantage of college viewing — which is now counted by Nielsen. “Sunny” returns to FX on Sept. 13.

“Since we were delaying the premiere, we wanted to give viewers a bonus piece of content to whet their appetite,” Gibbons said.

“Mac Is a Serial Killer” follows Frank (Danny DeVito), Dennis (Glenn Howerton) and Dee (Kaitlin Olsen) as they start to suspect that Mac (Rob McElhenney) is a serial killer terrorizing Philadelphia. Charlie (Charlie Day), on the other hand, attempts to prove Mac’s innocence by using techniques he’s gleaned from watching too many legal TV shows.

The episode will run later in the season as part of “Sunny’s” 15-seg order. FX has slated back-to-back episodes of “Sunny” at 10 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday nights, with back-to-back originals the first five weeks of the show’s run, and an original paired with a repeat during the second five weeks.

Gibbons said FX focused primarily on “Sunny’s” core male 18-34 demo this year to promote the show. Cabler has also launched an RV tour, taking an “It’s Always Sunny” bus to college campuses in eight markets, starting with U.C. Berkeley on Aug. 24.
