Imagi, Animation Guild reach deal

Contract covers writers, artists, designers

Imagi Studios U.S.A. and the Animation Guild have finalized a contract covering animation writers, storyboard artists and designers.

The deal was reached after an organizing drive by the guild, which operates as Local 839 of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. “The negotiations with the company were as pain-free as any we’ve had in the last few years,” said Steve Hulett, business representative for the local.

Imagi employees will be covered under the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plan.

Hong Kong-based Imagi Studios was formed in 2000 while Imagi Studios U.S.A., based in Sherman Oaks, was founded in 2004. Local 839 represents animation artists, writers and technicians at over 30 employers, including Disney, DreamWorks, Starz Media, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Fox, Universal, Warner Bros. and Sony.
