World Brief

State film org China Film Group and the Institute of Digital Media Technology in Shenzhen have picked digital cinema servers from China-Singaporean manufacturer GDC to outfit hundreds of cinemas.

The project aims to install at least 700 digital screens at the top 100 cinemas in China by the end of this year, rising to 2,000 next year.

For many years, Chinese cinemas were drafty, unwelcoming places where few people ever went, but growing spending power and a booming domestic market has seen massive investment in cinema chains, including digital technology.
