Hennessey to head online operations

Fox News named former SmartMoney.com and Dow Jones editor Ray Hennessey to head online operations for Fox Business Channel, expected to launch in October.

Hennessey will report to Fox News exec VP Kevin Magee and will oversee the function and design of the website.

Smart Money magazine is a joint venture of Dow Jones and Hearst Corp. Before moving to the magazine, Hennessey was news editor for Dow Jones and CNBC-Wall Street Journal Television from 1998 to 2005, managing personal finance and fund industry coverage.

He also served as a regular guest host of CNBC’s “Morning Call.”

His task of building a financial news presence from scratch will be greatly enhanced should News Corp. succeed in its $5 billion bid for Dow Jones, which would bring both MarketWatch and the Wall Street Journal’s significant Web presence.
