3.3 million units were sold in June, July

STOCKHOLM — The rainy summer has dramatically increased DVD sales in Sweden, according to statistics from market research org Gross From Knowledge.

Some 3.3 million units were sold in June and July, an increase of 42% from a year earlier, ringing up 321 million kroner ($46 million), up 32%.

DVD sales raked in $300 million last year; sales for the first six months of this year are running slightly behind 2006 at $135 million.

The five bestsellers in June and July were “A Night at the Museum,” Swedish comedy “Gota Kanal 2,” Swedish cop pic “Beck the Japanese Shunga Painting,” “Blood Diamond” and Swedish drama “Suddenly.”
