Company expanding presence in Asia-Pacific

Citing rapid growth in Asian markets, post-production equipment supplier Digital Vision will open an office in Hong Kong.

Digital Vision has also tapped Peter Charles director of sales for the Asia-Pacific region. Charles had been head of sales for DVS.

Stockholm-based Digital Vision already has subsidiaries in London and Hollywood.

Prexy-CEO Simon Cuff told Daily Variety that Digital Vision’s Asian sales “are rivaling North America in terms of volume, and that’s without even having a local office.”

He said the company is undergoing a resurgence following its shift from film to data, seeing its digital biz double each of the last two years. Its business, once split between TV and film post, is now mainly sales to feature post houses.

“Markets like India and China weren’t that developed 10-20 years ago and are putting a lot of investment into post,” said Cuff. “They’re skipping a generation and investing in a lot of software-based tools.”

Cuff said that facilities in India have upgraded to Hollywood standards, and “We think China is going to go that way.”

He noted that besides its proximity to China, Hong Kong is equidistant between Mumbai and Tokyo, making it an ideal site for the new office.
