First Look capitalizing on Nu Image's output
Company: First Look StudiosTitle: Chief operating officer Leadership: Wilson’s boarding of First Look is a reunion in a way. Several years ago, as co-founder of former Blockbuster acquisitions arm DEJ Prods., Wilson acquired dozens of straight-to-disc titles from Avi Lerner’s Nu Image, which recently purchased First Look. Now, Wilson is looking forward to getting his hands on Nu Image’s increasingly higher-profile output for First Look theatrical and DVD distribution. He notes that First Look has already yielded a $3 million-to-date gross on distribution of Nu Image production “Paris, je t’aime.” Wilson will also be steering First Look’s line of “Ultimate Fighting Championship” DVDs, which typically ship a healthy 100,000 copies apiece. Next year, Wilson projects First Look will deliver 60 feature film titles, many of them Nu Image projects. And company officials say their revenue could surpass $100 million this year. POV: “My relationship with Nu Image goes back 10 years, and now that’s flipped around,” Wilson says. “When you look at what First Look is bringing to market, you have Nu Image, UFC, a 1,200-title catalog. We do have a ways to go at First Look, building and developing as we go. My job is to make it that much stronger.” See list of profiled execs.
