Anika Noni Rose voices ‘Frog’ tale

Dreamgirl to star in animated musical

Disney has tapped Dreamgirl Anika Noni Rose to star in animated musical fairy-tale romance “The Princess and the Frog.”

Rose will voice the character Tiana, a princess living in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Pic is based on an original story by helmers John Musker and Ron Clements, whose credits include Mouse’s “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid.” Big Easy native Randy Newman will compose songs and score for the project.

Rose co-stars with Debra Messing and Joe Mantagna in the USA Networks miniseries “The Starter Wife,” which airs next week, and co-stars with Danny DeVito in the Hart Bochner-helmed comedy “One Part Sugar.”
