AccessIT, which delivers software and services for digital cinema, is acquiring the Bigger Picture, which has specialized in producing and distributing such alternative in-theater content as live events and Saturday cartoon matinees.
AccessIT already had an exclusive agreement to make Bigger Picture’s programming available to the exhibitors it services, including more than 1,600 locations that have installed equipment
<<>> by Christie/AIX, a subsidiary of AccessIT.
Bigger Picture distribs content designed to appeal to niche auds, including G-rated features produced by Kidtoon Films and religious pics distribbed by 20th Century Fox’s Fox Faith label. Bigger Picture also serves up anime, concerts and sports.
AccessIT chief Bud Mayo said in a statement, “Alternative content choices — such as concerts, faith-based, ethnic and sports programs — have been enabled by AccessIT’s industry-leading technologies. We expect the already significant revenues from each Bigger Picture program to grow significantly over time. This is a marketplace we expect to become a multibillion-dollar business.”
