The Scientific and Technical Awards Committed of Academy of Motion Pictures Art & Sciences has released its shortlist of 15 sci-tech achievements being considered for Oscar consideration.
Companies with similar devices or claims of prior art must submit their achievements for review by Sept. 20.
The committee will meet in December to vote on recommendations to the Acad’s board of governors, which will make the final awards decisions.
The 15 achievements being considered are:

Realflow (Next Limit Technologies)

FSIM-fluid simulation pipeline (Digital Domain)
Sandstorm software system (Sony Pictures Imageworks)
Houdini’s unified dynamics simulation environments (Side Effects Software)
Technicolor digital printer lights (Technicolor)

The Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards will be presented Saturday, Feb. 9 at the BevWilshire.
The 80th Academy Awards will take place Feb. 24 .
