Deals will increase RealD's install base to 680

Digital 3-D company RealD has pacted with several theater chains to expand its global footprint.

Beverly Hills-based firm, which manufactures and installs technology to let digital cinema projectors show movies in 3-D, will install an additional 104 systems on AMC screens, 75 for Regal Entertainment, 16 for Cinemark, five for Rave Motion Pictures, eight for Portugal’s Cinemas Lusomundo, and two for Village Roadshow in Greece.

New installations make RealD’s total install base worldwide 680. Company is aiming to hit at least 1,000 by the end of the year.

Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons,” which comes out March 30, is the next pic to utilize the technology. Mouse House is aiming to project the toon digitally in at least 500 theaters.
