Kandor over the Moon for Banderas

Star eyes longterm animation pact

MADRID — Antonio Banderas’ production shingle Green Moon Producciones is in talks with Spanish animation studios Kandor Graphics to form a longterm production alliance.

Kandor partners Manuel Sicilia and Raul Garcia are directing animated adventure feature “The Missing Lynx,” produced by Kandor, Ricky Posner’s YaYa! Films and Manuel Cristobal’s Perro Verde and sold internationally by 6 Sales.

As for the partnership between Green Moon and Kandor, “We’re exploring options and hope to close a deal by the fall,” said Green Moon producer Antonio Meliveo.

An alliance could include co-production on “Lynx” and other films, and would open the door for Banderas to lend his voice to these toon features.

Garcia is a former animator who worked at Disney Animation and Klasky-Csupo. Kandor holds a three-pic co-production deal with YaYa! and Perro Verde, Posner said.

Banderas’ interest in Kandor was sparked from footage of “Lynx,” which is half-complete.

The production alliance talks reflect Banderas’ passion for animation as well as his drive to support new or up-and-coming film talent in his native Andalucia.

Green Moon is based out of Malaga, Kandor out of the neighboring city of Granada.

“We’re delighted a company in Granada is making animation films for the international market,” Meliveo said.

At the Berlin Film Festival, Green Moon announced a joint production alliance with Antonio Perez’s Seville-based Maestranza Films.

The initial film under the pact, first-timer Javier Gutierrez’s singular moral sci-fi parable “El verano de la roca” (“Before the Fall”), will shoot shortly.
