Campbell hired to newly created post

Discovery Communications has named Bruce Campbell president of digital media, emerging networks and business development — a newly created post.

In another personnel move, Discovery has promoted Clint Stinchcomb, a 15-year veteran of the company, to exec VP-general manager of the emerging-networks group.

Campbell is rejoining his former boss at NBC Universal, Dave Zaslav, who ankled as head of NBC U’s cable-networks group late last year to take over as prexy-CEO of Discovery Communications.

Campbell was exec VP of business development at NBC, and his dealmaking skills played a big role, according to Zaslav, in that net’s purchase of Telemundo in 2002, of Vivendi Universal Entertainment in 2004 and of iVillage in 2006.

The emerging networks that report to Stinchcomb are Discovery HD Theater, Discovery Times, the Military Channel, Discovery Home, Discovery on Demand, Discovery Mobile and Turbo. Before his promotion, Stinchcomb was Discovery’s exec VP-general manager of HDTV and new media.
