BBC, UKFC to show films on digital network
Seven classic British films will play 136 screens across Blighty this summer thanks to a joint initiative between the U.K. Film Council and the BBC.
Season bows July 31 with James Bond pic “Goldfinger,” starring Sean Connery, followed by helmer David Lean’s “Brief Encounter.” All pics screen via the Digital Screen Network.
Other films are helmer John Schlesinger’s “Billy Liar”; “Henry V,” starring, produced, directed and adapted by Laurence Olivier; helmer Robin Hardy’s “The Wicker Man”; director Michael Anderson’s “The Dam Busters”; and helmer-scriber Bruce Robinson’s “Withnail and I.”
Venture is linked to pubcaster channel BBC2’s “The Summer of British Film,” dedicated to homegrown cinema and featuring seven-part documentary series “British Film Forever.”
