Yahoo! music head exits

Goldberg, Roback leave company

Shakeups continue at the Yahoo! Media Group offices in Santa Monica, where longtime music head Dave Goldberg and his chief deputy, Robert Roback, ankled Tuesday.

Move comes just two months after media group topper Lloyd Braun left amid a major reorg of the company. Head of sports and original content David Katz ankled around the same time.

Goldberg had been the only senior exec at YMG not brought in by Braun, who shook up the VPs in charge of all the major Yahoo! content sites during his two-year tenure.

He and Roback both came from Launch, an online radio company that Yahoo! bought in 2001. In their five years on the job, they built Yahoo! Music into one of the Web’s top music destinations, but didn’t succeed in their effort to build a download and subscription service to challenge Apple’s iTunes.

Goldberg won’t be replaced. Instead, Vince Broady, VP in charge of Yahoo! TV, Movies and Games, will add the music site to his portfolio.

In statements, Goldberg said he and Roback “look forward to going back to our entrepreneurial roots.”
