Namco Bandai strikes ‘Idols’ deal

Show enters mobile market

HONG KONG — TV formats giant FremantleMedia Enterprises has struck a deal with Namco Bandai Networks Europe to deliver the “Idols” gameshow to mobile phones across Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Namco Bandai Networks is the mobile games offshoot of Japanese toys and games giant Bandai Namco. Its European arm was launched at the beginning of the year and “Idols” deal with FME is first time unit has licensed content specifically for a European aud. It will develop, publish and distribute games based on the show, which has been sold to 41 territories around the world.

” ‘Idols’ is one of the biggest television formats in the world, with millions of fans who will soon be able to interact with their favorite show anytime they want,” Masaji Okubo, m.d. of Namco Bandai Networks Europe, said.

Mobile games based on TV shows regularly top games industry bestseller charts.
