Some 2.6 million viewers watched the YouTube debate on CNN, which is a slight drop from the cable networks coverage of a more traditional event last month.

CNN’s June 3 debate of Democratic candidates on June 3 drew 2.8 million viewers, according to the AP. An MSNBC debate on April 28 attracted 2.3 million.

The event did reach younger audiences. CNN did say that it got 45.5 million page views on its website and that its 18-34 year old audience was 407,000, the highest ever for its news programming.

My guess is the format will be mimicked in the future, as the debate generally drew positive reviews evene if what the candidates said didn’t break much new ground.
