One of the more unusual talk show/candidate match ups took place this morning when Ron Paul guested on ABC’s “The View.”
But even though the insurgent candidate — who may very well out-raise his GOP opponents this quarter — has been drawing lots of his energy from his opposition to the war in Iraq, that issue was barely even mentioned. Instead, it was abortion, immigration and China.
Co-host Joy Behar, a self-described Democrat, praised him for his anti-war views but challenged him on his opposition to abortion. That issue dominated the discussion, with Paul challenging Behar to say whether it would be right to abort a fetus in the 8th month of a pregnancy. In the end, there was little clarity on either side.
Paul then said that he would not favor amnesty for illegal immigrants, but said that they were being made “scapegoats” in the weak U.S. economy, particularly as the value of the dollar falls. And when Whoopi Goldberg asked him about China, he again cited the currency problem.
