You may be surprised to know that, despite all of her campaigning and fundraising, Hillary Clinton has yet to officially announce her candidacy — she still is raising money through an exploratory committee. The same with Rudy Giuliani. It seems like John McCain has made his officially announcement three or four times.
So when a candidate officially plunges into the race, it can seem redundant — but it does get publicity.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is planning to announce his bid in Hollywood on Monday, at the headquarters of the Los Angeles Press Club. Richardson, who was born in Southern California, is expected to appear with Hispanic leaders in making his speech.
He’s not the first candidate to announce a White House run at the Press Club. Ralph Nader launched his independent bid there in 2004.
