Taking a page from iTunes, Hillary Clinton’s website is asking for help in choosing a campaign song.
Users can click and listen to any of ten options — then cast their vote. (Write-ins welcome.)
The choices: U2’s “City of Blinding Lights,” KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See,” Smash Mouth’s “I’m a Believer,” The Temptations’ “Get ready,” the Dixie Chicks’ “Ready to Run,” Shania Twain’s “Rock this Country!,” U2’s “Beautiful Day,” Jesus Jones’ “Right Here, Right Now” and the Staple Sisters’ “I’ll Take You There.”
But what about Merle Haggard? He wrote a song in February specifically about her, and it even was played at Clinton’s big Hollywood fundraiser in March.
The partial lyrics:
If we don’t elect Hillary, then we’ll never know/She is the right lady, and her husband’s a pro/Eight years in the White House with the know-how we need/When you walk with a leader, you learn how to lead/And who kept her head high when it could have been down?/And who ran the show when the scandal hit down?/This country needs to be honest, changes need to be large/Something like a big switch of gender/Let’s put a woman in charge.
